RAISING THE BAR,
“A Ten Million Dollar Contract”
While Tanaga was reading the contract, his forehead wrinkled when he saw one
part of it that he doesn’t like. It was the one that stated that in the case on their first
sexual intercourse and she would get pregnant, they will no longer have to do it
‘Umm, Who’s Idea was this to input it this way? I need to change this before she can
sign it…’ He said to himself.
Tanaga stood up and called his secretary to change what was written in the
contract. A few minutes later, he received the new contract indicating what he
wanted to happen. He read it thoroughly to make sure,-this is much better- if ever
Ashley read this, she would not hesitate to sign it.
Later, Tanaga heard a knock on the door. “Come in!” Tanaga said as he grinned,
acting like a teenager who was excited to see his crush. He dusted off an imaginary
speck of dirt, straightened his posture, before straightening a none existing
wrinkles on his shirt.
In one stroke, he arranged the chair where Ashley would sit, combed his hair with
his fingers, and sat with his most charming smile to make himself immaculately
Slowly the door opened, and Ashley walked in looking beautiful as she walks
towards him with her head down, not looking at him at all. [All his effort were
wasted] ‘Here it is in front of him stood the girl who gave him a sleepless night, and the
reason he was in an angry fit the very next day.’ Tanaga thought as he stared
straight at Ashley without blinking an eye.
“If there’s nothing else, I will go and prepare your lunch, Sir!” the butler said with a
secret smile on his face.
Tanaga nodded and raised his hand to let the butler leave. He waited for the butler
to go before he invited Ashley to sit down.
“Come in! I will not eat you!” Tanaga said to Ashley, who was only waiting for his
Ashley slowly approached where Tanaga sat and settled on the empty chair at the
front of the table. She twisted her hands and looked down at her feet while her chest
was full of apprehension.
Minutes had passed but that the two were still in complete silence.
While Tanaga didn’t speak, Ashley was nervous, and her heart was pumping faster
‘What’s this, Lord…This is not what I dreamed of! I only wanted to help my family.
Why did you leave me to be scammed and come into this tragic situation?’ Ashley
silently complained to God and didn’t notice that Tanaga was staring at her with a
“Ahem, ahem, if you are done praying, can we start?” Tanaga joked, but his face
was emotionless, not even a hint of a smile was seen.
‘Well, ready or not… I already entered this mess then it’s bound to happen,’ Ashley
thought before nodding and looking straight into Tanaga with a sorrowful face but
with determined eyes, like a person who was about to be hanged.
Looking at her expression, Tanaga couldn’t help but burst into laughter. “Hahaha!
His laughter was clearly heard outside the office. The maid, who was cleaning just
behind the office door, was surprised and sprinted to the kitchen to inform the
butler. “What?! You heard the young master was laughing? Are you sure? Are you not
hearing things?” The butler couldn’t believe what the maid said.
The last time he heard, Tanaga laughed was when his parents were still alive. That
was exactly ten years ago… While reminiscing, the butler hadn’t realized tears of
joy had streamed down from his eyes.
“Thank you, Lord. You let him meet this young lady. If she can bring happiness to
my young master, I will do anything, anything in my power, just to make sure she
will never, never ever disappear from his life.” The butler promised with trembling
voice while his tears owed freely…
While the butler was in this state, he suddenly remembered that he was in the
kitchen to prepare lunch. He quickly ordered the cooks and the assistants to prepare
delicious meals in a jifiy. At the same time, he took the cold drinks the maid
prepared for their master and took charge of bringing them by himself.
In front of Tanaga’s office, the butler opened the door slowly and silently without
knocking to eavesdrop on what the two were doing. And was astonished by what he
